Energizing Orange Smoothie

I was visiting a dear friend last week who desperately needed a mid-morning pick-me-up. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating just a little, but I’m always looking for an excuse to play around with healthy food, and I LOVE to feed my friends!
She allowed me to experiment in her beautiful and well-stocked kitchen and enthusiastically played along as my sous chef. After several yummy, but not-quite-perfect variations we came up with this creamy, nutty orange smoothie that is reminiscent of an Orange Julius, only much better for you!

This Energizing Orange Smoothie is chock full of healthy fats, protein,  fiber, and no refined sugar! We used whole oranges (minus the rinds and seeds) to get all the goodness of the fruit 🙂 We didn’t add ice to the one in this picture, but I added it to this recipe and it is even better!

Energizing Orange Smoothie


  • 3 large oranges with rinds cut off and seeds removed
  • 2 T heaping chia gel
  • 1. T hemp seeds
  • 1 frozen banana
  • Splash vanilla extract
  • handful or two of ice


Blend all in a high-powered blender until smooth and creamy.
