Best Essential Oils for Muscle Pain + DIY Essential Oil Blend Recipe

Anyone who is an athlete knows that muscle pain and injury are par for the course. As I am constantly telling you, anything you put on your skin goes is absorbed on your body so make sure it is pure and natural. While I am not adverse to using over-the-counter pain medication if needed, I realize that those can be toxic and taxing to my liver. As a result my first remedy to reach for is always the natural one. Plus it’s fun to make your own!

Now on to a recipe that could offer some relief!

Muscle Pain Essential Oil Blend

  • 1 small roller ball bottle
  • 1 ounce carrier oil which is liquid at room temperature such as argan, sesame, almond, jojoba or grapeseed
  • 20 drops (total) of any of the above oils. I used lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, and clove for my teens.

  • Pour the carrier oil into a roller ball container.
  • Add in the desired essential oils.
  • Put the roller ball and the lid on and swirl the mixture to combine.
  • Apply as needed to sore muscles followed by warm or cool compresses.

I sure hope this helps!

** Please – always seek medical attention for serious injuries or if pain persists. Did I mention I’m not a doctor? See disclosure at bottom of page 🙂 This is from my personal experience and research and what I use on myself and my own family. If using on a baby, small child, elderly person, or pregnant person please do your research to make sure the oils you use are safe.

Many Healthy Blessings!

When you say of any of the above oils do you mean 20 drops of each oil or 20 drops in total

  • What do you recommend for an adult? With muscle pain?

    • lhugdahl

      Hi Melinda,

Thanks for your question. Adults can use any of the oils mentioned above. Ones that are frequently recommended for muscle pain are: Roman Chamomile, Marjoram, Rosemary, Thyme, and Vetiver. I also love lavender and peppermint in general for any pain. I also love to add essential oils and a cup or two of Epsom salts to a hot bath for soaking to help with muscle pain. Hope that helps!

Would this work for muscle pains caused by broken bones?

    • lhugdahl

      Hi Tiffany,

It very well could help. I’d certainly give it a try in conjunction with standard medical treatment for broken bones. Wishing the injured one a speedy recovery!

Sounds like a great idea. I’m praying you find some relief! Copaiba is another essential oil that some people use for pain relief. You may want to look into it and see if it sounds right for your situation. Blessings.
